Body MasksThe body is 'particular', 'natural', 'dangerous', the 'Other'. However, the body is a shell separate from the truth. The truth is subjectivity and empathy. I have chosen Sculpture and Photography to investigate issues of mutation, image and disguise. My intent is to create a portrait, whose subject is evolution. The figures are photographed putting on and taking off another person's body mold: embracing or sheathing their strange and unfamiliar "body mask". These photographs and the pile of discarded body masks provoke an emotional response to the subjectivity of the body. |
